BYD has won an order for the first full-electric buses for Jerusalem with a contract for seven 12m ebuses. The order follows a successful tender won by BYD in 2016 which involved 17 buses for Haifa in the north of Israel.
The order is part of a larger project, supported by the ministry of transport and the ministry of environment in Israel, designed to be the basis for a ‘green revolution’ in electric public transportation in metropolitan centres.
The Jerusalem buses are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2019.
“We are on a winning streak,” says Isbrand Ho, managing director, BYD Europe. “In the past weeks we confirmed orders for Italy and Norway and we are now pleased to announce our second order for Israel. And there is more to come.
“The 17 buses that have been running in Haifa for almost a year are performing very well in the hilly and hot area and we are sure that these seven buses will live up to that.”
