The Sustainable Bus Awards 2020 will be delivered at Busworld Europe in Brussels on 17 October 2019 with the finalists including vehicles from Iveco, Heuliez, Mercedes, Scania, Solaris and VDL.
The awards are presented annually with a judging panel drawn from European magazine editors – now including Bus and Coach Professional’s Steve Rooney. The awards are comprised of three categories: Urban, Intercity, Coach.
In the Urban category, the 2020 finalists are Heuliez GX 437, Irizar ie tram and Mercedes eCitaro. In the Intercity category the winner will be chosen from Iveco Crossway Natural Power NF, Scania Interlink LD LNG and Solaris Urbino 12 LE Lite Hybrid. And in the coach category, the finalists are Mercedes Tourismo Safety Coach, Scania Interlink MD LNG and VDL Futura FHD2.
The jury represents eight European countries, comprising Mobilités Magazine (France), Busfahrt (Germany), AUTOBUS (Italy), OV-Magazine (Netherlands), InfoBus (Poland), Infotrucker (Romania), Carril Bus (Spain) and Bus and Coach Professional (UK).
The final shortlist will now be subject to a detailed evaluation according to SBY criteria, which cover Engine, Transmission, Safety, Comfort and Sustainabiliy.
The scheme focuses on sustainability and aims to promote a positive image of buses and coaches to the public. A range of features are considered in the judging process including safety, comfort, noise, recyclability of components and the general environmental commitment of the manufacturer.
