Spanish operator EMT Madrid has placed its first order for 15 BYD 12m eBuses, following earlier BYD contract wins in Spain in Barcelona, Valencia and Badajoz. Significantly, Badajoz in the southwest of the country has just received the 50,000th eBus built by BYD, part of an order for 15 vehicles delivered last month and Badalona, to the northeast of Barcelona, is shortly to receive eight BYD eBuses.
The Portugese city of Coimbra is also about to put eight BYD eBuses into service.
“I am delighted that Madrid and EMT have chosen emission-free electric buses from BYD,” says Isbrand Ho, managing director, BYD Europe. “The benefits of clean operations will be seen by EMT and, importantly, by the people of Madrid. I am confident that we will continue our growth in the cities of Spain and we will pursue our mission to improve air quality throughout Iberia and beyond.
“We have made a good start this year by celebrating BYD Europe’s 20th anniversary, previewing our upcoming electric trucks in Europe, and delivering our second European airport eBus order to Brussels Zaventem Airport.”
