Volvo reveals new 9700 and name for MCV-bodied coach at NEC show

A left-hand-drive version of the new Volvo 9700 was shown at Coach & Bus UK, ahead of plans for its full introduction to the UK in late 2020.

“Operators will be familiar with the original 9700 which was our flagship premium coach for a number of years and was superseded by the 9900 and launched at Euro Bus Expo in late 2018,” says James Hyde, retail sales director, Volvo Buses UK & Ireland. “We wanted to take this opportunity to show customers the new 9700. While this particular model is in LHD variant, it is very close to the specification we will be offering to the UK market from late 2020 onwards and this will give everyone a good flavour of what this fantastic new coach will have to offer.”

The new 9700 is part of what Volvo Buses claims is the biggest renewal of its European coach range in several decades.

At the NEC show, Volvo also revealed the name of its MCV-bodied B11R coach. The newly-named eVoTor has already proved popular with many customers with orders exceeding initial expectations for 2019, according to Volvo.

Operators who have already added the eVoTor to their fleets include eight for Golden Tours, seven for Southgate & Finchley, eight for Skills of Nottingham and four for Ridleys.

Further stock orders have been placed to reflect initial demand and vehicles will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2020.
