Electric bus trial for Singapore

BYD is running a six-month trial of an electric K9 bus in Singapore on Go Ahead SG’s services operating from Loyang Depot. BYD is already working with Go Ahead in the UK with 51 ADL-bodied BYD electric buses due to start operation shortly.

“Working with LTA, Smart Group and Go-Ahead, it’s a great honour for BYD to bring the first pure electric bus to Singapore,” says Liu Xueliang, general manager, BYD Asia Pacific Region. “Electric buses have the potential to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality for a better living environment. BYD is committed to providing green and sustainable comprehensive ground transportation including e-buses, e-taxis, e-vans, as well as e-trucks.”

The bus takes five or ten hours to fully charge up to 100 per cent and has a 250km range, which is sufficient for a full day of service, according to BYD.

Bhupendra Kumar Modi, founder of Smart Group, BYD’s authorised distributor in Singapore, adds: “Our ultimate aim is to provide affordable and pollution-free transport to Singapore. It is therefore important that we provide the operator and authority with a first-class product and support network.”
