First Cymru driver Kenny Beckers celebrates 50 year
First Cymru has celebrated the loyalty and commitment of one of its drivers, Kenny Beckers, who has clocked up 50 years’ service with the operator. At a special ceremony, Justin Davies, managing director, First Cymru presented Beckers with a framed photograph depicting the buses he has driven over the past 50 years. He was also presented with two model buses in a presentation case from his colleagues.
Beckers started in the industry in October 1966, where he worked as a conductor until 1969. He passed his driving test at the age of 21 and in 1970 began his life as a driver. He became actively involved in the trade union from 1996 to 2001, when he stepped down to continue with his driving role, which he still does today.
“Doing this job for the past 50 years has been very rewarding,” says Beckers. “I’ve met many fantastic people and learnt so much. I’ve had many brilliant experiences and to this day the aspect of the job I enjoy the most is the great relationship I’ve got with customers. I hope to continue for many more years to come.”
Davies adds: “Kenny is an incredibly well-respected and treasured member of the team. To this day he performs to the highest standard and has a great rapport with customers. Kenny’s knowledge of the industry is second-to-none and it’s fantastic for our younger drivers who learn so much from him.”
