Joe Gilchrist steps down at Stagecoach Yorkshire
Stagecoach Yorkshire engineering director Joe Gilchrist is retiring following a career that has seen him work in engineering roles for companies across the UK including Motherwell, Aberdeen, Leeds, London, Leicester, Northampton and South Yorkshire.
Gilchrist, who joined Barnsley-based Stagecoach Yorkshire in 2006, started out as an engineering apprentice with British Rail Engineering, before stints as an engineer at organisations including the Scottish Bus Group and the then-Grampian Regional Transport which became First Group.
“I started at Stagecoach at the same time Paul Lynch was transferred to his managing director role in Yorkshire and I am grateful to him for all his help,” says Gilchrist. “It is fitting that I am retiring in the same year he has moved to his new role as regional director north.”
Lynch adds: “Joe has been very involved in a number of our environmental initiatives designed to cut emissions and reduce our carbon footprint through cleaner engines, renewable fuels, and more energy efficient facilities.
“Our apprentice scheme is also widely recognised as one of the most comprehensive in the bus industry and that’s in no small part down to Joe’s involvement and commitment.”
