Operations role for Morebus’ Freeborn
Go Ahead-owned Poole bus operator Morebus has promoted Mike Freeborn, who is the first candidate to progress through its internal development programme, to the role of assistant operations manager.
After joining Morebus’ predecessor Wilts & Dorset as an apprentice vehicle technician in 2000 at the age of 16, Freeborn worked his way up to skilled vehicle technician and then joined the newly-introduced internal development initiative.
“Often, companies look outside for graduates to join their management teams – and those who have worked for years on the ‘inside’ sometimes get overlooked,” says Freeborn, “but this wasn’t the case here.
“When I applied for the chance to take part on an 18 month training scheme, with a view to eventually joining operations management, I was given every opportunity to succeed.
“I’ve found the programme very fulfilling – there’s never a dull moment as a manager here. It’s incredibly important to progress your training and learn to apply new skills if you want to succeed in any career. And I feel Morebus has given me every opportunity to do just that.”
