Lothian takeover of East Coast gets competition body clearance

The Competitions and Markets Authority has cleared the acquisition by East Coast Buses Limited of the east coast operations of First Scotland East Limited. East Coast Buses is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lothian Buses Ltd. As part of its recent investments in the East Coast network, Lothian has launched NightHawk, a new night bus service.

“We are absolutely delighted with the CMA decision announced today. We know that thousands of residents, workers and the economy of East Lothian rely on public transport for their daily lives and well-being,” says Richard Hall, managing director, Lothian Buses.

“East Coast Buses Limited is now in a position to build on our original service offering and make further investment in our people and our fleet to ensure that buses continue to play an integral role in the communities that they serve.”
