Petitioners campaign to save coach parking site against redevelopment on Holy Island

A petition launched on the '38 degrees’ website is aimed at stopping the sale of a key site on Holy Island, off the coast of Northumberland which includes a current coach parking facility. The petition, which to date is approaching its target of 4,000 signatures, is calling on the county council to abandon plans to sell the Green Lane car park at the edge of the island as a development plot.

The promoters of the petition are demanding a full assessment of the proposal on the local environment, coach parking and the impact on local tourism.

More than half a million visitors go to Holy Island each year and the campaigners assert that the coach parking and drop-off points are vital to sustain this major tourist attraction.
