A tracking system developed for The Kings Ferry commuter coach operation has now been expanded with the launch of a free iPhone and iPad app by developer Masternaut.

CoachTrac is the first consumer iPhone app from the Leeds-based vehicle tracking company and is downloadable from the Apple iTunes store. It enables passengers to find the nearest bus stop easily using their current location or by postcode or place name. The app locates bus stops and can navigate the traveller to the closest stop using digital street maps displayed on iPhone. Users can also track coaches en route using Masternaut’s satellite tracking system which is fitted to The Kings Ferry coaches.

“CoachTrac allows busy travellers to plan their commuting time around bus departures and arrivals, which takes the stress out of commuting,” says Johann Levy, research and development manager, Masternaut. “For office workers it also means that they can manage their time better because they no longer need to worry about missing their bus home as they can quickly find out alternative pick-ups.
They benefit from building up flexi-time hours or even taking a break with their colleagues at the end of the working day.”

CoachTrac runs on any iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with iOS 3.0 or later. As well as providing real-time coach tracking and navigation to convenient bus stops, it also provides additional travel information, including identifying restricted travel days and times.
