What is claimed as the biggest investment ever by a bus operator in the Bournemouth area has seen Wilts & Dorset spend £5,5million on 36 new Volvo B7RLEs with Wrightbus Eclipse bodies for its More services.

“We are delighted to announce this investment and show our commitment to offering customers the very best travelling experience in the conurbation,” says Wilts & Dorset managing director Andrew Wickham.

“The new Eclipse 2 buses will offer more comfort, with spacious interiors and are powered by the latest environmentally friendly, low emission Euro 5 engines that are also more fuel efficient. They are also CCTV equipped for added security.”

The More services have experienced passenger growth year on year since their launch in 2004 and now carry over 6.5 million customers each year.

However the new More fleet is facing limited competition from rival operator Yellow Buses which last week extended one of its routes to the Castlepoint shopping park, and is claiming to offer the fastest trip between Castlepoint and Poole, at 44 minutes which is 10 minutes quicker than the W&D More service. However the Yellow Bus service only operates once an hour where the W&D service runs every 7/8 minutes.
