Chalkwell commuters incentivised to switch
Kent commuter operator Chalkwell is offering season ticket holders on other coaches, as well as those using the train, nine weeks free travel if they opt to switch to its services and trade in their existing season tickets.
The offer is targeted at anyone wanting to purchase an annual GoCard, a smart card ticketing system which has been introduced on Chalkwell weekday services into London.
Chalkwell, which is in its 22nd year of running commuter services, is one of the first independents to adopt a smart card ticketing system for commuter coach services.
“We know commuters get tied into long term arrangements by buying season tickets and some times that is a barrier to switching providers,” says commercial director Roland Eglinton
“Commuters can save a lot of money by travelling with us, but some times other providers have refund policies which are not conducive to moving around. We will help them with an extension of nine weeks travel to offset any penalty clauses they may have.
“If people are thinking of giving us a try and they have an existing annual, four week or monthly ticket with the rail or another coach operator, they can fill in a form, scan their existing rail/coach ticket, attach it and we will send them a free 10 journey GoCard.
“In the event of there being four to nine weeks left on their ticket we will add the extra time onto the end of their annual GoCard.”
The GoCard system has been operating for three months and customers can top-up online.
Chalkwell operates daily commuter coach services from Sittingbourne, Medway, Maidstone, Kings Hill and the surrounding areas.
