Discovering gardens and heritage
The tour contains a number of special visits from castle and garden admissions, estate visits, a lake cruise and a craft centre. A visit to Biddulph Grange Gardens offers a world of horticultural delights with Italian terraces, oriental gardens, Egyptian courts and Himalayan valleys. It was recently featured in BBC 2’s series ‘Secret Gardens’ with Alan Titchmarsh. A visit to Trentham Estate is also included, with its award-winning gardens, shopping village, garden centre and monkey forest featuring 140 barbary macaques. From here, there is a catamaran cruise on the Trentham Lake, designed by Capability Brown. There are also stops at one of the largest historic visitor attractions in the West Midlands, Kenilworth Castle and its Elizabethan gardens, as well as Wedgwood Visitor Centre.
Optional sightseeing in the area includes Tamworth Castle, a tasting at the Titanic Brewery, named in honour of the local born commander of the cruise liner, Captain Edward John Smith, or a ride on the Battlefield Line Railway.
Accommodation is provided in the outskirts of Tamworth at the 3-star Aspect Hotel. A four-nights half board & inclusive package is available from £155 per person from 1 April to 31 October 2013. Details of the tour are in IQ20, the quarterly online group packages brochure.
