Expanding the successful RDA-Workshop brand

Expanding the successful RDA-Workshop brand RDA-Workshop features 960 exhibitors from 41 countries.

The RDA-Workshop in Cologne provides a unique marketplace, being the largest international tourism show devoted to the coach and groups market. This year’s event saw a number of new exhibitors as well as many regulars returning for the 21st RDA-Workshop and the organisers have now agreed to extend the brand with an additional event held in southern Germany in 2016.

This year’s show in Cologne saw visitors from more than 3,000 companies and organisations, almost 70 per cent of whom are group tour operators. There were 960 exhibitors from 41 countries across the two exhibition halls. Visitor research carried out by RDA shows that around a quarter of visitors are from outside Germany, with the UK in ninth place in terms of attendees. The RDA-Workshop is definitely about doing business as well as meeting people, with 91.1 per cent of visitors saying they placed orders or agreed on options at the event, and 96 per cent would recommend the event to colleagues.

The additional RDA-Workshop in 2016 will be held at Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance on 7-8 April, with the regular Cologne event taking place on 5-7 July 2016.

The RDA says it is responding to requests from a number of its regular exhibitors for an additional show at an earlier time of the year to attract more trade visitors from southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

“We wish to convince new exhibitors of the benefits and possibilities offered by the RDA Federation and RDA-Workshop, says Heinrich Marti, RDA board director, trade exhibitions.

Friedrichshafen is located on Lake Constance on what is known as the Germany-Austria-Switzerland border triangle, and is also close to Liechtenstein.

The RDA is enticing new exhibitors with micro-stands which will be priced below 1,000. Companies who are not RDA members will be able to exhibit, subject to a 20 per cent surcharge, and there is also a 20 per cent surcharge for late bookings received after 1 January 2016.

Among the exhibitors at this year’s RDA-Workshop were a small number from the UK including the regular Kent-based consortium led by Visit Kent and Canterbury Cathedral. Wholesaler Albatross is a regular at RDA-Workshop and this year used the event to mark its 30th anniversary.

Along the aisles of the Cologne exhibition centre is a veritable treasure trove of the latest destinations and ideas in group tourism. The exhibitors include hotel groups, wholesalers, destinations, equipment suppliers and vehicle manufacturers displaying some of the latest coaches as well as a sprinkling of vintage vehicles which the locals quaintly term ‘old-timers’.

The RDA-Workshop provides an unrivalled opportunity to gather new ideas, inspiration and valuable business contacts. And next year there are two opportunities to attend.
