The first of Stagecoach's overnight sleeper coach services starts next month, running from Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth and Cumbernauld to London, seven nights a week. The megabusGold.com service is being operated by new purpose-designed £500,000 Van Hool double-deck coaches which have 53 leather seats that can be converted into 42 lie-flat beds. Ticket prices range from £15 to £60.

Customers using the overnight service receive complimentary refreshments during their journey as well as a sleeper kit which includes an eye mask, a toothbrush and toothpaste. In addition, as a pilot, passengers will also be given a choice of a blanket or a ‘onesie’ to sleep in during their journey.

Two more routes to London will start this summer, one running from Inverness, Aviemore, and Glasgow and the other from Falkirk, Dunfermline, Ferrytoll, and Edinburgh.?Elizabeth Esnouf, managing director of Stagecoach’s UK Coach division, says: “We know there are lots of people who are keen to try these new services and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board when they get underway this summer.

“Our sleepercoach vehicles are the first of their kind in the world and we’re excited to be using them to provide a great value, comfortable service for our customers that will allow them to go to bed in one city and wake up in another.”

The launch of the new sleeper coach network follows the success of a pilot route between Glasgow and London using refurbished articulated vehicles fitted with bunk beds.
