Four Traction hybrids for Merseytravel

Four Traction hybrids for Merseytravel Traction ran a trial with this hybrid Solo in spring 2007.
FOUR hybrid Optare Solos with a hybrid diesel and supercapacitor power pack from Traction Technology have been ordered by Merseytravel for delivery later this year.

Traction Technology says that the contract for the four vehicles follows a competitive evaluation of hybrid systems by Merseytravel. "This is the first time that Traction has been part of a head-to-head evaluation of its hybrid system and the success in this trial is seen as a very important indicator in Traction’s plans for the adoption of its offering in the UK market and beyond," says a Traction spokesman.

There are four vehicles trialling Traction's hybrid system - operating with Epsom Coaches, Arriva North West, Arriva Southern Counties  and Ipswich Buses. To date these four vehicles have completed more than 70,000 miles service.

Last November, Optare  and Traction Technology confirmed a memorandum of understanding which will lead to the application of super capacitor technology to an Optare Versa hybrid prototype by March 2008.
