Hybrid Tempo confirmed for 2007

Hybrid Tempo confirmed for 2007 Optare seals new hybrid deal with GM Allison.
OPTARE and GM Allison have formally signed an agreement to bring the Allison hybrid system to the UK.

The first application is planned for a Tempo single-deck bus in the second half of this year.

The GM Allison hybrid system is established in the US where there are nearly 500 buses using it as a result of federal funding to support the adoption of the cleaner technology. It is a parallel hybrid design which combines power from a diesel engine with electric power from an energy storage system.

Optare first revealed its plans for the tie-up with Allison at the Eurobus show in November and said that it the demountable engine rack on the Tempo would make it easier to equip the model for hybrid use.
