Leeds StreetCars delayed start
FIRST has delayed until January the phased introduction of its Wrightbus StreetCars to Leeds. The company had intended to start operations last month, with customer service hosts on board to issue tickets and check passes. But it has now decided not to use the vehicles in the busy pre-Christmas period and instead to start phasing them in from early next month.
The announcement comes as the company says that year-on-year growth on the York service which was upgraded to ‘ftr’ operation earlier this year has seen passenger numbers rise by 26 per cent, although it can not identify how much of that is attributable to increased travel by concessionary pass holders.
The York StreetCar fleet is currently undergoing work to address problems with the vehicles’ heating systems and onboard information displays.
