New website to support Olympic tourism

VisitBritain has joined forces with London 2012’s Nations & Regions Group (NRG) and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to create a new website for tourism businesses looking to benefit from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The new website - www.tourism2012games.org - was launched during British Tourism Week at the Best of Britain and Ireland event in London’s Olympia last month.

The Tourism2012Games site includes business advice and access to products and services from two of London 2012’s main UK partners, BT and Lloyds TSB. Tourism businesses are also invited to submit their own news and views about the 2012 Games and to register to receive a regular e-newsletter to keep them updated on relevant news.

“The 2012 Games are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to host the world’s biggest party, to showcase Britain and improve our welcome,” says Sandie Dawe, chief executive, VisitBritain.

“There is a potential £2.1billion benefit at stake so with little over two years to go, we aim to make tourism businesses aware of the opportunities and challenges. The new Tourism2012Games website will help everyone in tourism understand exactly how they can benefit from the Games.”

The Tourism2012Games website also includes Brand Protection Guidelines  with specific examples of what can be communicated to customers about tourism products and services.
