Scania announces Caetano bodies for NatEx
SCANIA has announced one of its biggest UK coach orders – 44 vehicles with Caetano Levante bodies for National Express.
Caetano bodywork has not previously been offered on Scania chassis in the UK, and while NatEx has bought Scanias with Irizar PB bodies for prestigious London routes, it has not previously had any significant involvement with Scania on coaches for its main network.
The Scanias will be made available to NatEx contractors through the Scania Bus & Coach dealership.
NatEx says the Scanias were ordered because they represented the best available products at the time it was making its decision to buy its first Euro 4 coaches. Scania uses EGR to meet Euro 4 where Volvo, traditionally the main supplier to NatEx uses SCR.
NatEx is in discussion with Volvo about its future requirements, but also plans to offer the MAN/Plaxton combination to its contractors. MAN, like Scania, uses EGR for Euro 4 compliance.
Scania has secured new bus orders too, including 10 Polish-built OmniCitys for Reading Buses. This marks a switch of body supplier; in the last two years Reading has taken 30 Wrightbus-bodied Scanias.
