The South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority has approved plans for a voluntary bus partnership that brings together the South Yorkshire PTE, First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Sheffield, TM Travel, Sheffield Community Transport and Sheffield city council.

A revised network, which is due to start on 28 October, will feature a new discounted multi-operator ticket which will see fares reduced by as much as 23 per cent. Up to 35 per cent of customers stand to benefit from the new fares. To complement the current Citywide day ticket, new weekly, 28-day and annual Citywide tickets will be introduced.

Other improvements on the way include smart ticketing and less frequent changes to routes and timetables.

And the partnership will also benefit from money awarded earlier this year from the government’s Better Bus Areas scheme.

Leigh Bramall, Sheffield council’s cabinet member for business and vice-chairman of the ITA, says: “The partnership is the best deal for Sheffield. It will see better buses offering a better, more reliable and affordable service, with a unified approach to customer information and a modern approach to ticketing.”
