South Yorkshire PTE director general David Brown is moving to Merseytravel, the Merseyside PTE, as chief executive and director general. Liam Robinson, Merseytravel chairman, says: “I am genuinely excited by this appointment, and believe we have someone who has a national reputation and an exceptional record in South Yorkshire.

"David Brown has been responsible for nationally-recognised, pioneering projects, and he is the best person to lead integrated transport in the city region into the future.”

Brown has been SYPTE director general since 2008, and before that was passenger services director. He is also chairman of PTEG, the Passenger Transport Executive Group.

Merseytravel's interim chief executive Frank Rogers will become deputy chief executive. Rogers, previously customer services director, took over last November replacing another interim appointment, Jim Barclay, who had been put in place when the organisation's previous chief executive, Neil Scales, moved to Australia to become chief executive of TransLink, the public transport authority in Brisbane.
