West End shows drive London boom

With established smash hits in the West End, great new shows on the horizon and world class exhibitions to pull in the crowds, sales of London entertainment are going to break all records for 2010, according to specialists ticketing company Applause.

“We are preparing for a busy year.  With so much great entertainment in the capital during 2010 we fully expect to break our sales records,” says Claudia Coelho, Applause groups manager.

“Some really big shows are opening in 2010 such as Shrek and Hair, which are going to be massive. Also with the great groups and travel operator rates available, the established West End shows are going to continue to sell well.”

Applause’s best-selling West End shows for 2009 were Hairspray, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Dirty Dancing and Wicked.

“Outside of the theatre there are plenty of world class attractions and exhibitions to attract the public to the city. The RHS Flower Shows at Chelsea and Hampton Court and the London Boat Show are perennial best sellers while newer events such as the Farnborough International Airshow and Quilts at the V&A are proving to be very popular,” adds Coelho.
