Silver anniversary for Canterbury Tales

Article Image

The Canterbury Tales, the award-winning visitor attraction in the centre of Canterbury, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2013.

To mark the silver anniversary, costumed character guides will be introduced to parts of the tour to entertain, amuse and educate visitors. Available from April onwards, the guides will add a fun new dimension to the experience for groups.

“Having welcomed more than two million visitors from all over the world, The Canterbury Tales remains one of the ‘must do, must see’ attractions in Kent,” says Elizabeth Mounser, group sales manager at Continuum Leading Attractions which owns The Canterbury Tales. “It provides an excellent introduction to the historic cathedral city and its famous literary connection with Chaucer. We are excited to be celebrating our quarter of a decade in this beautiful city and with The Canterbury Tales offering an hour’s visitors experience and new joint ticket, catering options and new school workshop options, there really has never been a better time to visit us.”

Pre-booked groups of 15 or more enjoy discounted admission prices, priority admission, plus free familiarisation visit for the organiser, free admission for the coach driver and free audio commentaries.

The Canterbury Tales brings to life five of Geoffrey Chaucer’s best-loved stories with tales of love, romance and trickery, vividly re-created with all the fun of Chaucer’s original tales. Its stunningly accurate reconstruction of 14th century England, set inside the former St Margaret’s Church, gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights, smells and sounds of medieval times.

Visitors are invited to join Geoffrey Chaucer and his colourful band of pilgrims as they embark on a journey from The Tabard Inn in London to the shrine of St Thomas Becket located in Canterbury Cathedral.

Two other award-winning attractions within the Continuum Group portfolio will also celebrate anniversaries this year. York’s Chocolate Story marks its first birthday on 31 March, whilst The Real Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh kicks off its tenth anniversary in April with a programme of one-off special events as thrilling as the five star attraction itself.
